The Atlas 40' Double Door Box Car was created to represent the generic 40' foot double door design that was inspired by the 1937 AAR box car. In addition a number of railroads constructing their own versions, car manufacturers such as American Car & Foundry, Pullman Standard and Magor Car also contributed to the deigne. The 40' Double Door box car was primarily designed to haul automobiles and were often specially equipped with loading racks to pack as many vehicles as possible within the specs allowed.
